An interesting beginning with a slightly fresh approach.
The love story set against the backdrop of a war between humans and werewolves is captivating—slow and agonizing.
I couldn’t bring myself to hate Blake. I probably was supposed to, but he’s far too charming—he’s that kind of villain. Alongside him, we have the Wolf King, who is also the kind of character you love to hate, yet feel a spark of attraction toward. He has a backstory that gives him a solid motive. Villains are made, not born.
The setting in which the story unfolds is enchanting. It’s the first book with Scottish influences that I’ve read.
From the first 20 pages (even less, actually), it keeps you hooked, and from the halfway point on, I couldn’t put it down.
The ending is the cherry on top—it makes me want to read the next volume. Even if the real story seems to begin only at the end, it was still a full, promising book.
The only thing that bothered me was Aurora. A spoiled princess who can’t seem to find any motivation to fight in any way—there’s always someone there to save her.
There’s also a kind of love triangle that reminds me a bit of the one in the ACOTAR series.
I hope it will be just as good.
